Shihan S. Kato - 8th Dan - European Chief Instructor IJKA Europe

Kato Shihan was born on the 22nd July 1943 in Kochi Japan, he attended the world famous Takushoku university and trained under Sensei Tsuyama, Kanazawa and Urui. He was sent by the JKA to Germany in 1966 and later on to the UK. Kato Shihan travels extensively around Europe teaching. We are very fortunate that he runs three or four courses and gradings in the York area every year. The photo above left shows Kato Shihan with one of our junior karateka, Daniel Kozelko .

Shihan K.D.Gullen - 6th Dan - IJKA Northern Regional Coach Gullen Shihan is a former European and World Champion who runs his own club at St Olaves school in York on a Wednesday evening. Gullen Shihan also instructs at the Selby Club four times a year. This is an ideal time for our younger karateka to lift both their level of training and etiquette. The photo above right shows Gullen Shihan at our dojo at Barlby School during a recent course .
